NOVEMBER REIGN: Colts vs. Chargers

In NFL Week 10, the San Diego Chargers hosted the reigning Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts on a rainy Sunday night in San Diego, California’s Qualcomm Stadium.

Who Came, Saw, and Conquered: Falling just short of a thrilling fourth-quarter-comeback win, Peyton Manning and his mighty Colts fell to 7-2 on the season after a 23-21 loss to the Chargers, who improved to 5-4.

Lookin’ Good: The Chargers’ Big “D” – as in defense and Darren Sproles

Less than 15 seconds into the first quarter, the Chargers jumped to a 7-0 lead thanks to Darren Sproles’ opening kickoff return for 89 yards, while also turning in a 45-yard punt return for a TD later that quarter. Coming off of two interceptions in Week 8, an NFL-record 109-yard return in Week 9, and three Peyton-Manning-pickoffs in Week 10, Chargers CB Anthony Cromartie has undoubtedly earned his stripes.

Seen Better Days: QB Peyton Manning and kicker Adam Vinatieri

With QB Peyton Manning racking up 328 yards and two TDs and the Colts holding the Chargers to only 177 yards of offense, by all accounts this would be a usual win for the Colts. However, Manning’s franchise-record six interceptions and Adam Vinatieri’s missed FG attempt from 29-yards out with 1:31 left in the game were somewhat unusual for the usually automatic Colts.

Keep an Eye On: The AFC West standings

After raising eyebrows with a 1-3 start, the Chargers have raised their game and their record to 5-4 to claim sole possession of first place in a fairly lackluster AFC West. With upcoming games against the Jaguars, Ravens, and Chiefs, the Chargers will need to make big gains in the win column to break away from divisional foes, Chiefs and Broncos, who are not far behind at 4-5.

Week 11 Watch: New Orleans Saints (4-5) v. Houston Texans (4-5)

The Texans’ Big Three – QB Matt Schaub, RB Ahman Green, and WR Andre Johnson, who has been out with a knee injury since Week 2 – return to the Texans’ line up Sunday in Houston’s Reliant Stadium. Also look out for a battle of the 2006 NFL Draft Picks with DE Mario Williams (#1) and RB Reggie Bush (#2) going head to head in Week 11.
