LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE ‘BOYS: Cowboys vs. Lions By Andrea de Vera OnlineTickets.com
DETROIT – In NFL Week 14, the Detroit Lions hosted the Dallas Cowboys inside Ford Field Sunday.
Who Came, Saw, and Conquered: The Cowboys needed a last-minute, fourth-quarter rally to roar past the Lions 28-27. With the win Sunday, the Cowboys improved to 12-1 on the season and clinched the NFC East title for the first time in nearly a decade. The Lions – who started 6-2 – have reeled off five straight losses and are now fighting for their playoff lives.
Lookin’ Good: Cowboys’ offense
In a game where Pro Bowl WR Terrell Owens collected only 21 yards and QB Tony Romo and TE Jason Witten coughed up two fumbles in the fourth quarter, why on earth would the Cowboys’ offense get the game ball? RB Marion Barber III turned in his first career 3-TD game. Witten made a franchise-record 15 catches for a career-best 138 yards receiving. Romo set a club record with a TD pass in 17 consecutive games. Oh, that’s why.
Seen Better Days: Lions’ fourth-quarter play
After three quarters, the Lions led the Cowboys 27-14. The Lions’ defense was shutting ‘em down and the Lions offense was lighting ‘em up – until the fourth quarter. The Lions’ defense allowed the Cowboys to score 14 points while the Lions’ offense could not muster any points in the final quarter – both leading to the Lions’ demise.
Keep an Eye On: Cowboys’ record
The Cowboys are good – so good that their only loss came at the hands of the 13-0 New England Patriots back in Week 6. Since then, the Cowboys have bounced back admirably with seven straight wins. The Cowboys – who face the Philadelphia Eagles at home and the Carolina Panthers and Washington Redskins on the road – can potentially finish the season 15-1.
Week 15 Watch: Jacksonville Jaguars (9-4) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (9-4)
North meets South as the Steelers take on the Jaguars Sunday inside Heinz Field, where the Steelers have rolled to a perfect 7-0 record thus far in the season. With the Steelers trying to fend off the 8-5 Cleveland Browns for the AFC North title and the Jaguars riding on the heels of the Indianapolis Colts for the AFC South title, a Week 15 win would be big for both ball clubs. |
