TEXAS SHOOTOUT: Giants v. Cowboys By Andrea de Vera OnlineTickets.com
In Week 1, bitter NFC East rivals, Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, lit up the scoreboards inside Texas Stadium Sunday.
Who Came, Saw, and Conquered: Cowboys over Giants, 45-35
Lookin’ Good: Cowboys QB Tony Romo
A playoff blunder should not define Romo. A career night should. Romo
led the high-scoring shootout, completing 15-of-24 passes for a
career-high 354 yards, connecting with Terrell Owens on 2 of his 4
touchdown passes, and running in his first-ever rushing TD to cap off a
stellar night.
Seen Better Days: Giants’ injured reserve
Despite injuries to four of the Giants’ key contributors - QB Eli
Manning (shoulder), DE Osi Umenyiora (knee), starting RB Brandon Jacobs
(knee), and special teams standout Kevin Dockery (ankle) – the Giants
went blow for blow against the ‘Boys until late in the fourth quarter.
Keep an Eye On: Cowboys run game
The ‘Boys runningbacks, Marion Barber and Julius Jones, combined for
131 rushing yards Sunday. If Barber and Jones continue their ground
attack, opposing defenses will be forced to respect the run, which
takes the pressure off of Romo and the passing game.
