Earl Scruggs

Details

Taking the art of 3-string banjo work to a science, Earl Scruggs helped bring Bluegrass from the obscurity of the American South to the mainstream. Joining up with Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys would prove to be a historic event and would help define Southern music. The playing of Earl Scruggs was central to the creation of the Bluegrass genre, named after the Blue Grass Boys.

Earl Scruggs teamed later with Lester Flat to form another iconic band in the Foggy Mountain Boys. Flat and Scruggs would continue to define and reinvent the Bluegrass style. This pairing culminated in the Grammy winning “Foggy Mountain Breakdown”. Earl Scruggs would also receive fame for recording “The Ballad of Jed Clampett”, the theme for The Beverly Hillbillies. Flat and Scruggs would later break up, with Earl Scruggs founding his new band, The Earl Scruggs Revue.

Earl Scruggs has released many albums over his long career since going solo. The Storyteller and the Banjoman became one of the most well-known and acclaimed. Earl Scruggs also became widely known from his many visits to Austin City Limits. Earl Scruggs has also worked with countless musicians and artists during his career, including Steve Martin, Elton John, Billy Bob Thornton, Johnny Cash, and Vince Gill. Dual inductions into the Country and Bluegrass Halls of Fame put the icing on the long legacy of Earl Scruggs.

The Country and Bluegrass genres would not be the same without the many contributions of Earl Scruggs. A legend of the South equal to any hero before him, Earl Scruggs will surely be remembered as one of the most important musicians of all time. With a new tour in 2008, Earl Scruggs is hardly ready to rest on his past accomplishments. Order your Earl Scruggs tickets from OnlineTickets.com today!
