Jerry Douglas

Details

Jerry Douglas will perhaps go down as the best acoustic guitarist of all time, taking the resonator guitar to never before seen heights. With bending scales that put Slash to shame and a deep sound that brings up thoughts of Mark Knopfler, no single musician has done more to define an instrument outside of Jimmi Hendrix. Quickly becoming a legend in the Bluegrass and Country genres, Jerry Douglas’ work spans almost the entire musical spectrum and he has played on over 1,600 albums.

After first appearing alongside J.D. Crowe in The New South, Jerry Douglas quickly became a musical phenomenon. Doing things never before thought possible with the resonator guitar, Jerry Douglas released solo album Fluxology in 1979. Jerry Douglas’ unique mastery of the Dobro made him one of the most wanted touring and studio musicians in Bluegrass and Country. Jerry Douglas would appear on various albums over the years, and in various bands before hitting the national stage with his work with Alison Krauss.

Jerry Douglas first joined Alison Krauss and Union Station for the platinum album Forget About It. The soulful voice of Alison Krauss with the skill of Jerry Douglas would become one of the most critically acclaimed acts in modern Country. The Alison Krauss/Jerry Douglas collaboration continued for many more albums but culminated in the six-time platinum O’ Brother, Where Art Thou? Soundtrack. The soundtrack did much to bring back interest in Bluegrass and was a launching point for Jerry Douglas to reach new heights in his career.

The two most recent albums to feature Jerry Douglas are A Hundred Miles or More with Alison Krauss and solo album Best of the Sugar Hill Years. Jerry Douglas will release his new album Slide in 2008, as well as joining the Country Music Hall of Fame. To support both, Jerry Douglas will be on tour in 2008.
