Founded in 1991 by Tom Morello, Rage Against the Machine fuses Hip Hop with Metal and Punk. Frontman Zach de la Rocha lays down the vocals in a fast, flowing style, with lyrics that are often politically charged and seem more fitting than ever with the current issues of the day. Morello’s guitar is almost a second vocalist for the band, playing riffs and sound effects alike – often garnering some of the band’s greatest praise.
Rage Against the Machine’s eponymous debut album Rage Against the Machine was driven to triple-platinum status by the single “Killing in the Name Of”, despite its harsh and profane lyrics. The band’s follow-up album Evil Empire debuted at the top spot on the Billboard Chart, powered by the single “Bulls on Parade”. Rage Against the Machine has been featured on many soundtracks with songs like “Calm Like a Bomb” and “No Shelter”.
After some inter-band strife, Rage Against the Machine broke up, sending De la Rocha toward a solo career, while Morello and the others joined up with Chris Cornell of Soundgarden to form Audioslave. After years of rumors and even demands by fans, it was announced that Rage Against the Machine was going to reunite. In 2007, the band came together once again.
With the current political situation and an election on the horizon, Rage Against the Machine finds itself in possibly the most relevant time of its career. Ahead of them, Rage Against the Machine has a European tour this summer, as well as a headlining spot alongside Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, and Kanye West at Lollapalooza.
