While citing U2 as their biggest influence, Snow Patrol’s complex sound defies easy categorization. Gary Lightbody and Mark McClelland made their start performing at the university and local pubs in the area. In 1994 and in 1997 Snow Patrol released their first EP Starfighter Pilot. A few years and one more drummer later, Snow Patrol released their second EP Little Hide which featured Snow Patrol’s first charted track “One Hundred Things You Should Have Done in Bed”.
In 1998, Snow Patrol released their first studio album Songs for Polarbears, which featured a remixed version of their 1997 song “Starfighter Pilot”. Snow Patrol’s next studio album When It’s All Over We Still Have to Clear Up was released in 2001. In 2003, Snow Patrol released the track “Run” off their album Final Straw. “Run” reached No. 5 on the UK charts. Final Straw also did well commercially, reaching No. 3 on the UK charts.
In 2005, Snow Patrol toured alongside U2 during the European Vertigo Tour. After touring, Snow Patrol took some time off to work on their next album Eyes Open as well as working on a cover for the John Lennon track “Isolation”. Eyes Open featured Snow Patrol’s international mega-hit “Chasing Cars”. In 2007, Snow Patrol released “Signal Fire” off the Spider Man 3: The Official Soundtrack.
Snow Patrol has several projects in the works for the upcoming years. Snow Patrol is currently working on a follow-up album to Eyes Open and is also planning a Final Straw and Eyes Open tour.
