Blues-Rock in the 1990s is usually not a genre for a profitable musical career, but the Black Crowes defied convention and became a musical juggernaut that’s still rockin’ today! Formed in 1984 by brothers Chris and Rich Robinson, the Black Crowes have gone on to sell over 20 million albums, while garnering acclaim from music critics and fans alike.
In the beginning, the Black Crowes worked a small fan base for years before getting a record deal in 1989. The Black Crowes first album Shake Your Moneymaker, which boasted a sound that was far from the mainstream but still spawned hit singles “Hard to Handle,” “Seeing Things,” and “She Talks to Angels” – two of which were No. 1 hits. A strong tour followed and Shake Your Moneymaker went three times platinum.
Follow up The Southern Harmonies Companion debuted at No.1 with help from singles “Remedy” and “Thorn in my Pride,” and soon after a scrapped studio album Amorica was released and went gold. Singles of this era that lit up the radio included “Kickin’ My Heart Around” and “Blackberry.” With Chris Robinson going solo in 2002, the Black Crowes were put on hiatus until 2005 when the Robinson brothers reunited.
