Van Halen

Details

“Roth or Hagar?” has become one of the biggest questions in American music history. The debate is of course about the better frontman for Van Halen – one of the greatest rock bands of all time. After selling more than 75 million albums, the debate still rages but the love for Eddie Van Halen and the band remains. Regardless of the lead singer, the legendary guitarist makes Van Halen…well, Van Halen.

Founded by Van Halen brothers Eddie and Alex, the band was soon joined by singer and showman David Lee Roth. After becoming a staple on the Sunset Strip and Los Angeles scene, a chance encounter with Gene Simmons secured Van Halen a demo and an eventual shot to the big time. Van Halen the band’s first album was an instant best seller and Van Halen’s stage show which mixed the antics of Roth with the skill of Eddie quickly built the fan base even more.

Classic albums such as Van Halen II and Women and Children First were released in quick succession. Album 1984 would be the peak album of Van Halen with singles “Hot for Teacher” and “Jump” becoming Van Halen signatures. After a tour for 1984, Roth left Van Halen and was replaced by the arguably more vocally talented if less flamboyant Sammy Hagar. In the “Van Hagar” era, Van Halen achieved almost unthinkable success in both album sales and singles.

In 2007 Roth returned to Van Halen to a large and positive fan reaction. With the old magic back, Van Halen started their first world tour since 2004 and the first with Roth since 1985. Who knows if this lineup will ever be together again, so don’t miss your chance to see these legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famers on tour in 2008.
