Using the mute expressions, props, homemade percussion instruments, and a load of blue paint, the Blue Man Group manages to parody modern life – from rock stars to upscale society – without uttering a single word! Part street music, part Industrial, and full-blown theatrical spectacle, the Blue Man Group has all the tools to produce an incomparable stage show.
Begun as a street project by Phil Stanton, Chris Wink, and Matt Goldman in 1988, the Blue Man Group worked its way to New York comedy clubs through word of mouth. By 1991, the Blue Man Group was playing its own off-Broadway show. With hard work, myriad of TV appearances, an army of loyal fans, Blue Man Group quickly moved up the ranks to one of modern theater’s best acts.
Audience members are often made a part of the show; either brought on stage or lampooned while sitting in the stands. Fans are provided with a plastic sheet to protect themselves from the spray off the stage if they sit too close to the performers. Much like the original Industrial bands of the 1970s, Blue Man Group uses custom-made instruments or commonly found objects to play their form of music.
Currently the Blue Man Group is on a tour of the United States with repeated and extended dates at the custom-built Blue Man Group Theatre inside Las Vegas’ Venetian Casino.
