Turning to boxing as a way to stay out of trouble, a young Paulie Malignaggi would soon take the boxing world by storm. Training in Brooklyn, New York, Paulie Malignaggi snagged victories in the a slew of amateur boxing bouts, including the New York Golden Gloves Amateur Championship, the United States National Amateur Championship, along with the Everlast U.S. Championships to name a few.
In July 2001, Paulie “The Magic Man” Malignaggi kicked off his professional boxing career with a first-round KO against Thadeus Parker. In 2002, Paulie Malignaggi continued his dominance inside the ring with seven-straight victories, including a second-round TKO over Anthony Simpkins. In his early years, Paulie Malignaggi was certainly a force to be reckoned with, boasting a 21-0-0 record.
In June 2006 with the WBO light welterweight title up for grabs, Paulie Malignaggi would face the undefeated Miguel Cotto. After 12 grueling rounds, Paulie Malignaggi may have walked away in defeat, but he had gained much respect from the boxing world. Next up for “The Magic Man” was Lovemore N’Dou. Paulie Malignaggi would go on to defeat N’dou in 12 rounds, scoring an IBF World Junior Welterweight Championship along the way.
In 2008, Paulie Malignaggi defeated a tough adversary in Herman Ngoudjo and defended his IBF title against Lovemore N’dou once again.
