Gypsy

Details

Gypsy has long entertained Americans with its tale about a “very American” character who believes in the American dream. Millions of theater fans from around the nation have flocked to theaters where they can lose themselves in Rose Lee’s topsy-turvy life. Despite the play’s very simple plot and familiar setting, Gypsy’s messages of determination and persistence make Gypsy the widely loved and acclaimed Broadway musical it is today.

After Rose Lee fails to accomplish her dreams of glory with June, she moves on to her other daughter. Once Louise manages to gain fame as a burlesque dancer and eventually become a big star, Rose Lee has nothing more to do after years of relentless pushing.

Throughout the play’s long history, Gypsy has made appearances in various venues of worldwide. Gypsy boasts numerous notable cast members including Bette Midler as Rose Lee. For the 2008 revival, Patti LuPone has reassumed her role as the tough Rose Lee and the roles of the daughters are played by Laura Benanti and Leigh Ann Larkin. Memorable songs such as “Let Me Entertain You” and “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” are once again stirring up the hearts of audiences.

Full of powerful lyrics, dynamic performers, and unforgettable scenes, Gypsy is undoubtedly the must-see Broadway play of this season.
