Monty Python’s Spamalot is a lot like the hilarious film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, with the tagline even stating that Spamalot was “lovingly ripped off” from the movie. After being seated, audience members are encouraged to let their cell phones and pagers ring “willy-nilly” if they want the heavily armed knights on stage to drag them onstage and impale them. Monty Python’s Spamalot includes classic Monty Python’s songs like “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” as well as showcasing the wit and humor Monty Python is famous for.
In January 2005, Monty Python’s Spamalot officially opened in Chicago’s Shubert Theatre and immediately sold out. As Monty Python’s Spamalot took off in Chicago, plans of a Broadway show were in the works and soon Spamalot was opening on theatre stages all across America including New York, London, and Las Vegas. The Monty Python’s Spamalot tour went under way in 2006 and subsequently won three Touring Broadway Awards including “Best Musical”.
