The Raconteurs History (2005-)

With members of The Raconteurs finding independent success in other bands this “supergroup” has found international fame.

The Raconteurs: A Smooth Start

Jack White, Brendan Benson, Jack Lawrence, and Patrick Keeler are the quartet for the group known as The Raconteurs (to those in Aussieland they are known as Saboteurs). What began with one song, two friends, and an inspiration in Nashville, Tennessee, The Raconteurs became a full-fledged band in Detroit in 2005. The Raconteurs quickly gained notoriety touring across Europe, Asia, and America at events such as Coachella in Indio, California, Lollapalooza in Chicago, Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin, Vegoose in Las Vegas, and the Reading and Leeds festival in the UK.

The Raconteurs: Debut Album

The Raconteurs released their debut album Broken Boy Soldiers on May 16, 2006 and a day earlier in the UK. Broken Boy Soldiers made No. 19 on Spin Magazine’s list of top 40 albums of the year. Broken Boy Soldiers reached No. 2 and No. 7 on the UK and US charts, respectively. The first track off the Broken Boy Soldiers album “Steady, As She Goes/Store Bought Bones” was released initially on a vinyl record in late January 2006 in the UK and in the US on March 7, 2006. Broken Boy Soldiers was later released on CD a little over a month later. The CD included a B-side featuring the track “Bane Rendition”.

The Raconteurs: Performing Live

The Raconteurs performed their first live performance on March 20, 2006 in Liverpool which resulted in a small British tour. Exactly one month later, The Raconteurs performed in New York City at the Irving Theater, which kicked off an official American and European tour. The Raconteurs brought in solid crowds mostly under the famous name of Jack White, lead singer of The White Stripes. The Raconteurs opened for Bob Dylan as part of the northeastern leg of their tour. On November 3, 2006, The Raconteurs made a guest appearance on Later with Jools Holland, where they performed two hits off Broken Boy Soldiers: “Store Bought Bones” and “Broken Boy Soldiers”.

The Raconteurs: Sophomore Album

Consolers of the Lonely was released on March 25, 2008, which featured its first single “Salute Your Solution”. In an attempt to keep critics from prematurely reviewing the album, Consolers of the Lonely was announced a week before its release. The Raconteurs have announced that they will be going on a promotional tour and will be making stops at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, TN, the Oxegen festival in Ireland, the Open’er Festival in Poland, the Leeds and Reading festivals in England, and will be performing on “The Pyramid Stage” at the Glastonbury Festival in England. In addition, The Raconteurs will also be headlining other appearances throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe through the end of October 2008.
