Jersey Boys: Origins

Jersey Boys The Story of Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons is based on the lives and works of the four members in the sensational ‘60s pop/rock group the Four Seasons. Jersey Boys is a musical in the style of a documentary and showcases the band’s musical hits, while telling the chaotic story of the Four Season’s front man, Frankie Valli. The Jersey Boys musical first opened on Broadway in November 2005. The first national Jersey Boys tour began in December of 2006 at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco. The tour ended in 2007 and later that year the creators transferred the Jersey Boys to Chicago for a long run at Chicago’s LaSalle Bank Theatre. The Jersey Boys Chicago tour brought original Four Seasons band members Frankie Valli and Bob Gaudio out to see the show on opening night.

Jersey Boys: Tours

After the original release of the Jersey Boys tour it received rave reviews. Most critics call Jersey Boys “a big thumper of a show with fantastic music.” The producers of the Jersey Boys musical were not expecting the response that they did. Soon after the Jersey Boys first national tour ended, a demand for a second Jersey Boys tour began. The Jersey Boys musical tickets went on sale for shows on Broadway, in San Francisco, in Chicago, in Houston, in Minneapolis, in Cleveland in June 2008, and in other cities nationwide. A special holiday performance of a Jersey Boys musical production in Las Vegas premiered at The Palazzo Hotel. The Jersey Boys musical also toured abroad. The West End Jersey Boys debut took place at Prince Edward Theatre in London. Jersey Boys also made its Australia debut in February 2008.

The appeal of the Jersey Boys musical lies in the music. Jersey Boys features all of the Four Seasons’ most beloved classics. The original cast recording for Jersey Boys was produced by Rhino Entertainment and is entitled Jersey Boys: Original Broadway Cast Recording. Since its inception, Jersey Boys has garnered numerous awards and endless praise. Jersey Boys has won countless Tony Awards including “Best Musical”, “Best Actor in a Musical” for John Lloyd Young, “Best Featured Actor in a Musical” for Christian Hoff, and “Best Lighting Design of a Musical” for Howell Binkley.
